A play that's prompted worldwide protest for portraying a gay Jesus-like character
has drawn the ire of Victoria's Islamic community just days before opening in Melbourne.

American playwright TERRENCE MCNALLY'S Corpus Christi opens on Wednesday at the Athenaeum
II Theatre as part of the 2001 Midsumma Festival - Melbourne's 13th annual gay and lesbian
arts and cultural festival.

Victoria Islamic Council president YASSER SOLIMAN says both Muslims and Christians
