Fed: Anglican women call for induction of women bishops

Anglican women have called for their sisters to be promoted to leadership ranks withinthe church as bishops.

The group Movement For The Ordination Of Women Watch has appealed to Anglicans in thecountry to consider the issue in a spirit of mutual respect.

The movement's national president, Reverend VAL GRAYDON, says the issue is not theologicalbut about a balance of women and men in church leadership.

Speaking after her group's national conference in Sydney, she said women's experienceand women's voices must be heard.

She says new rules about women as bishops will be considered at the church's next GeneralSynod in October 2004 in Fremantle.

A draft was released in early July.
