MELBOURNE, Jan 10 AAP - A blue-green algae warning has been posted for the Murray Riverbetween Mildura and Robinvale, in north-western Victoria.

The Sunraysia regional algae monitoring committee posted the alert because blue-greenalgae in the river between the two towns was building up to harmful levels.

"Blue-green algae numbers are approaching levels where they may cause skin and eyeirritations after contact and gastroenteritis if untreated water is consumed," committeechair Ian Matheson said in a statement.
