Qld: Howard caught lying about interest rates

The opposition says JOHN HOWARD has been caught lying in election promises to keep
interest rates low.

Labor's treasury spokesman WAYNE SWAN says comments by the outgoing Reserve Bank Governor
.. IAN MACFARLANE .. have destroyed the prime minister's credibility on interest rates.

Mr MACFARLANE has told The Australian he was annoyed by the government's election campaign
promises of low interest rates.

Interest rates have gone up three times since the promise was made.
